Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Announces New Specialty Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology

Boston, MA (April 30, 2008) Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a multi-specialty physician group with practice sites throughout eastern Massachusetts, proudly announces Dr. Susan Taylor Haas has returned to the organization in a new role: Specialty Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology services for Harvard Vanguard at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1993 to 2003. Dr. Haas brings more than two decades of leadership experience to this position.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Haas back at Harvard Vanguard,” said Leslie Schwab, MD, interim Chief Medical Officer of Harvard Vanguard. “She brings a wealth of experience in her field, and we are looking forward to her leading our Obstetrics and Gynecology department.”

Most recently, Haas was the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and the Chief Medical Officer at the Boston Medical Center from 2005 to 2007. There, she was responsible for risk management, quality improvement and medical staff affairs. Her accomplishments at BMC included implementing an electronic incident reporting system, developing and implementing a robust RCA process, creating a strategic plan for quality improvement. Initiated an interdepartmental QI Committee focusing on Core Measures and P4P results, and developed a GME strategic plan to meet new ACGME regulations for oversight, resources, and integration of competencies into the curriculum.

Previously, Haas was Director of Quality and Process Improvement for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BMC. As the Director, Haas was responsible for the development and leadership of clinical quality and process improvement functions. Haas focused on

  • Implementation of Labor and Delivery teams training program and
  • Design and implementation of a Joint Commission compliant credentialing and privileging process

Haas earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health, a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School and a Bachelors degree with distinction from Mount Holyoke College. She resides in Boston, Mass.
