Newton resident/Harvard Vanguard physician is honored by Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts as 2007 Physician of the Year
West Roxbury, MA - Matthew M. Shuster, M.D., a Newton resident and Chief of Internal Medicine at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in West Roxbury has been honored as 2007 Physician of the Year by the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts advances compassionate, quality care in the home through advocacy, education, and information. Dr. Shuster is among six individuals to receive an award at the Alliance’s annual awards ceremony in Boxborough on Thursday, June 7th.
Dr. Shuster was nominated for the award by Kenneth Anderson, Vice President of Operations for Americare at Home, Inc., in Newton. “Dr. Shuster recognizes the vital role that home care clinicians play in keeping him informed on patients’ conditions,” Anderson said in the nomination. “He will make home visits himself when the home care staff have concerns about a patient who cannot get to his office. He looks for creative solutions to assist his mostly senior patients to remain safely at home, where they want to be.”
Patricia Kelleher, Executive Director of the Home Care Alliance, notes that, “The Alliance’s annual awards recognize and celebrate individuals who exemplify the compassion and commitment that is the essence of home care. Dr. Matthew Shuster represents the best that can be found in each of the hundreds of physicians who oversee home care services for their patients throughout Massachusetts.”
A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Shuster is board-certified in internal medicine, geriatrics and hospice and palliative medicine. He holds a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School and is affiliated with Faulkner Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Shuster is a member of the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Intensive Home Based (IHB) Program. Dr. Shuster currently practices internal medicine at Harvard Vanguard in West Roxbury where he also serves as chief of internal medicine. Dr. Shuster has practiced at Harvard Vanguard since August of 1987.
